Custom Sign Material Thickness Options

There is a variety of custom sign material thicknesses available to choose from. The most commmon thicknessses are 3/16 inch. 1/4 inch, and 1/2 inch. Depending on the sign’s intended use,one of these thicknesses may be more appropriate then the others. For example, thicker material may be needed for an outdoor sign that will be exposed to the elements while a thinner material may suffice for an indoor sign. Ultimately, it is up to the customer to decide wich thickness is right for their needs.

How Thick Are Sign Material Should Be

3D Letters & Logos

3D letters and logos are made of vinyl. They are around 1/4 or 1/2 thickneess depending on the size of the letter, they can be made thinner or thicker. 3D are a great way to add dimension and interest to any space, especially for markeytng purposes.

Acrylic / Plexiglas

If you’re looking for an indoor wall sign, the idea; of thickness of acrylic material is 1/8″ If you’re interested in a meduim sign, then thickness should be 3/16.” However, you can still choose a thicker acrylic sign because there are thicknesses available up to 1″ thick.

Aluminum

ARMOUR-Wood signs come in 1/2″ thickness. This is extremely heavy-duty-the highest rigid panel strength available, The sign panel itself is made up of a solid wood core that is factory-sealed with an aluminum, armor plate shield on both sides.

Coroplast

Coroplast signs are made from twin-wall polypropylene and are available in thickness from 4mm to 10mm. The most popular thickness for indoor sign is 6mm; for outdoor signs it;s 10mm. If you’re looking for a durable sign that will last for years, then 10mm is the way to go.

Decals

Decals signs can come in different thicknesses depending on the type of vinyl used. The most common thickness for decals is 3.5 mil. This thickness is suitable for most indoor and outdoor applications. If you need a decal to lasy longer, then you dcan choose a 5-7 mil vinyl. These thicker vinyls are more resistand to tearing and fading.
